Cambridge Scandinavian for This Old House

Kitchen and Bathroom Design
On her fourth project for TV’s This Old House, Kathy used clean lines and natural wood tones to create a fresh, minimalist kitchen (and several baths) inspired by her client’s Swedish roots.
A Modern Makeover

In 2012, This Old House TV returned to Cambridge, MA to help a young family preserve the exterior of their 1887 Queen Anne, while creating an interior that was clean, modern, Scandinavian-inspired. With an architect and interior designer already attached, the show’s producers called on Kathy to make sure the kitchen and baths were designed and executed at the same high level as the rest of the project.

Center Stage

With the kitchen firmly at the center of the first floor’s open floor plan, Kathy assembled a team of trusted partners and subcontractors, providing custom cabinetry, luxury appliances, tile, hardware, lighting, and a dramatic, 11.5-foot maple island with a dovetailed waterfall edge detail to anchor the space.

“The range hood's whitewashed Southern yellow pine finish relates to trim and ceiling details throughout the house, so we designed the island top in maple for differentiation while keeping within the Scandinavian color palette. ”
