About Kathy Marshall

Kathy Marshall Design in Wenham, MA

Owner and Principal Designer Kathy Marshall’s lifelong passions are creating good design and beautiful homes.

Her earliest memories include accompanying her cabinetmaker father to jobsites and workshops on Boston’s South Shore, awakening her appreciation for the trades and their craft. At home, she soaked up every detail of her 1900-era Shingle Style house - including its rambling horse barns and lengthy renovation - as she further developed her natural sense of scale, proportion, and style.

While still in college, inspired by her love of the outdoors, she founded a company designing and producing outerwear products under her own label, and then later for iconic brands like Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and L.L Bean. As she raised her own family, she apprenticed under her father and became a partner in his successful kitchen design firm where she designed, specified, sold, and oversaw installation on hundreds of kitchens and bath new builds and renovations.

After his retirement, she combined her love of old homes, antiques, textiles, and travel, with her expertise in kitchens, baths, and interior architecture, and opened her own full-service interior design studio, Kathy Marshall Design, Inc., on the North Shore, in Wenham, MA.

In the years since, she’s received recognition in numerous print and online publications like Traditional Home, Better Homes & Gardens, New England Home, This Old House magazine, the Boston Globe, and House & Garden UK. A discerning eye for detail and depth of knowledge of renovation earned her a recurring role over a ten-year span on America’s most trusted home improvement television show, This Old House.

Kathy knows that good design supports well-being and brings energy and joy to everyday living, and she sources from around the world to create beautiful, timeless interiors that reflect her clients’ unique pursuits and passions.
